August Mundel Memorial Scholarship Award Eligibility Requirements

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. The applicant must be sponsored by a member of the Tappan Zee Section.
  2. The applicant must be a graduating high school student or college undergraduate accepted for study in an accredited college, university,  or trade school.
  3. Financial need is not a factor in this program.
  4. The Applicant must not have received the August Mundel Scholarship previously. The scholarship may be awarded only once to an individual.

Application Submission: 


  1. The application must include the following:
    a. A completed Scholarship Application form.
    b. An original essay, written by the applicant, of not less than 750 words on a topic related to quality.
    c. The most recent transcript of the applicant’s high school or college record.  The transcript form must include a signature by the school’s principal/dean, guidance counselor, registrar or authorized alternate.
    d. A letter of acceptance from an accredited college, university, or trade school.
    e
    . The sponsor’s ASQ membership identity number.

  2. The application and other items listed above must be sent to the Tappan Zee Section’s Scholarship Chair postmarked no later than April 1st.
    
  3. A confirmation of application receipt will be sent to the applicant by the Scholarship Chair.

 Award Selection: 

  1. Selection of finalist scholarship candidates will be made from all completed applications by qualified candidates by the Scholarship committee.

  2. Scholarship candidates will be evaluated using the following criteria to narrow the candidate pool to a select group of scholarship finalists:
    a. Academic achievement/scholastic aptitude/transcript
    b
    . Honors and awards
    c. Leadership qualities and personality
    d. Extracurricular activities
    e. Content of the 750-word essay on topic related to quality.

  3. Scholarship finalists will participate in face-to-face interviews with the Scholarship Committee to select the scholarship winner and alternates. 

  4. Alternates will be selected from among finalists in the event the recipient does not accept the award.

  5. The finalist and alternates will be selected by May 1st.

 Award Selection: 

  1. Payment of the scholarship award will be made to the scholarship recipient’s college, university, or trade school of choice, or if requested, directly to the award recipient.

  2. The award is of a monetary nature to be used by the recipient in any manner to defray the costs associated with school expenses as can be applied through the school itself.

  3. Applicants are free to select any course in a college, university, or trade school.  The entire process of applying for admission to the school is solely the responsibility of the applicant.

  4. Award acceptance does not prohibit recipients from receiving other scholarships.
