About this topic:

The talk will cover the current state of testing laboratory accreditation, what it entails, and what it should mean to a lab and a customer.  Additionally, the presentation will include lessons learned and some horror stories from an assessor who sees 20+ different labs in an average year.

About the Speaker

Tom Doggart holds BS degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Engineering and a MS in Materials Engineering from the University of Connecticut. He served in the US Navy for 22 years as a submarine officer, retiring from the Navy Reserve with the rank of Commander. Tom was the Testing Lab Manager at Holo-Krome, a hand tool and threaded fastener manufacturer, as well as the Chief Materials Engineer at EG&G Sealol, an aerospace seals manufacturer. After EG&G Sealol he became Chief Operating Officer at the Charlotte facility of Stork Heron Testing Laboratories, a commercial testing laboratory. In all three of these positions Tom was directly responsible for accredited testing facilities. Tom currently owns Nomad Metallurgy LLC, an industrially based materials engineering services company celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2014. In that capacity he has performed ~20-3rdparty laboratory accreditation assessments for A2LA since 2006.  Tom also holds a Professional Engineer license in 4 states.
