He is a certified GE Master Black Belt, and a Stanford University Certified Project Manager (SCPM). He has a certificate in Strategic Decision and Risk Management (SDRM) from Stanford University.His drive and passion are to tackle complex problems and deliver effective solutions, building and coaching individual or teams, and helping others articulate goals and successfully execute their plans.

About the Speaker
Carl Johansen, also known as “The Bearded Guru” is a quality management subject matter expert. Carl holds a BSIT and MSTM in industrial technology, six sigma, and lean management from Central Connecticut State University. During Carl’s graduate studies, he worked as a manufacturing engineer in the fast paced manufacturing sector at an industrial storage company in Connecticut. After graduate school Carl moved to the architectural hardware facet of the sector and continued to perform manufacturing engineer duties.
After five years in the manufacturing industry, Carl moved to the energy and utility sector in Manhattan, New York where he is a program manager and project specialist for Con Edison’s Environment Health and Safety (EH&S) quality group. At Con Edison Carl is the program manager for the company-wide certification of its environmental management system to ISO 14001. For the last five years, Carl has been applying the quality management principles he learned in college and honed in the manufacturing industry to the energy and utility sector.
In his spare time, Carl is an automotive enthusiast who enjoys MINI Cooper rallies and shows with friends. Carl is also an active member of ASQ holding the marketing and membership value chair of the Design and Construction (DCD) division as well as a member of the environmental management sub-committee of ASQ’s Energy & Environment division (EED). Carl is also speaking at the 2017 World Conference on Quality and Improvement in Charlotte, NC on May 2nd session T23.
